About Jiangsu University and and Zhenjiang City
Jiangsu University is located at Zhenjiang City in the middle of Jiangsu Provice. It was founded by combining the former Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (a key university), Zhenjiang Medical College and Zhenjiang Teachers’ College with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China in August, 2001. It is a teaching-and-research-oriented comprehensive university, strong in engineering disciplines. It is one of the first group of universities that offer doctoral programs and one of the Top 100 Universities in China. Currently, Jiangsu University has 26 schools offering 87 undergraduate degree programs in 10 academic fields: Engineering, Science, Medicine, Literature, Economics, Law, Management, Education and History. The university has established long-term cooperative relationship with 67 universities and educational or research institutions in America, England, Germany, Australia, Thailand, Japan, Russia, France, Italy, Korea, India, Singapore, Sweden, Austria, Ghana and Denmark.
Zhenjiang is situated in the middle of Jiangsu Province, at the junction of the Yangtze and the Grand Canal, 63 kilometres (40 miles) from Nanjing.It was the capital of Yangtze Riverthe province during the Republican period (1911–49) when Nanjing was the national capital. Earlier Chinese travellers classified Zhenjiang’s scenery as ‘The Best Landscape under Heaven’, and indeed the area known as the Southern Suburbs was often used as a theme in landscapes by famous Chinese painters- A local specialty is a steamed meat pastry called Crab Cream Bun. Other famous special products include fragrant black vinegar (鎮江香醋), Chinkiang pork (镇江肴肉), and pickles.
